Kaieteur News – An argument between two vendors at the Stabroek Market in Georgetown over stall placement has left one dead and a 46-year-old bread vendor in police custody for murder.
The dead man has been identified as Robert Bizzette, 35, called “Brick” of Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown. The incident occurred around 16:30hrs on Tuesday at the Stabroek Market Square.
It was reported that Bizzette and the bread vendor had argued over the placement of Bizzette’s stall. During the argument, Bizzette reportedly drew a ‘jucker’ and threatened the other vendor.
However, the bread vendor retaliated by pushing Bizzette to the ground and arming himself with a knife. The police report further stated that the argument continued between the two men and Bizzette then armed himself with an axe and chased after the suspect, who was still armed with the knife.
This publication understands that the suspect fell to the ground and Bizzette stopped chasing him. While Bizzette was walking away, the bread vendor reportedly dealt him several stabs about his body.
Despite wounded, Bizzette ran to the Stabroek Police Outpost where he fell to the ground and was later escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he died while receiving treatment.
An anti-crime patrol later arrested the bread vendor at Camp and New Market Streets. An investigation into Bizzette’s murder is ongoing.
