DEAR EDITOR,
I have taken note of the press release, which was issued today by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and I would kindly ask that you permit me to voice a few concerns. From the time the release hit social media, I noticed coalition supporters and even opposition members condemning the Government for what was said on the matter. However, they are all negating the second paragraph which reads “At no point in time has Prime Minister Rowley ever disparaged the vaccine programme in Guyana, nor has he ever implied that the vaccines in use in Guyana are defective or unsafe”. The question must therefore be asked, why the opposition is not focusing on the most important part of the press release. In my view, it is, because they are trying to push their own narrative to create confusion.
From what I have observed over the last couple days and from what I read in the press release, there seems to be some contradictions because the Coalition blasted a video recording on social media of Trinidad’s PM, Mr. Rowley, claiming that his words support their false claims about Guyana’s vaccination programme. However, the press release clearly states that the PM never said anything of the sort. Any right-thinking person would be able to decipher what is happening. The reality is that the APNU+AFC started an anti-vaccine campaign and as part of that, they circulated an edited recording of Mr. Rowley to bolster their false narratives on Guyana’s ongoing vaccination programme.
It is ridiculous for these Coalition members to go to all these lengths so as to prevent Guyanese from getting inoculated against the COVID-19 virus. They themselves have gotten the same vaccine they are now criticising. However, it would appear that they do not care for others to be protected as well. That just shows how incompetent they are and reiterates the fact that they do not care for Guyanese.
Respectfully yours,
Alvin Hamilton
