Dear Editor,
Response is being made to Mr. Donald Ramotar, in his capacity as former President. The PPP/C, which Mr. Ramotar is a member of, has made it their modus operandi to deceive in order to keep society in turmoil and the poor suffering. I reject, outright, Mr. Ramotar’s false thinking that he “got the impression …they were asking [him] for some money to compensate Mr. Kissoon’s nephew or that they would go public.” (KN, June 16) Mr. Ramotar’s recount of what happened, with all due respect to the office he once held, is delusional.
There was no need to call him to solicit money, engage in bribery or corruption. To even entertain the perception, as someone said to me, is “like they take their curse and want to put it on others.” Telephone contact was made with Mr. Ramotar. The call was to inform him that his son, who had hit down the nephew of Freddie Kissoon on the Kitty Public Road, in a vehicle accident, should be answerable to the law and that the victim is entitled to justice. Instead of receiving such assurance from the President, he became belligerent and in erratic tones was defending his son.
I believed Mr. Ramotar’s son, who at the time of the accident was working in the Office of the President and head of the failed cyber optic cable project that cost taxpayers billions of dollars, was not above the law. I still believe this and would suggest to Mr. Ramotar, in his response, to state if his son was ever charged by the police and the victim ever received justice. If Mr. Ramotar chooses to remain silent, then Freddie and his nephew should speak out whether they received justice through the court or accepted financial compensation from the Ramotars.
Yours truly,
Mark A. Benschop, BS, MA, MS
