Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – Does the Local Content Policy apply to Guyanese with dual citizenship? I applied for a position with a leading player in the Oil and Gas sector through an agency. I stated in my CV that I am a Guyanese and USA citizen. The agency was aware and I made it known to the client during the interview that I am a Guyanese and USA citizen.
After a month of deliberation, I was told that the client was finding it difficult to decide between myself and another candidate. Eventually the offer was made to the other candidate who I was told was not Guyanese. I have worked in several countries as an expatriate but first and foremost an advertisement was placed in the local press for local candidates and if there was no suitable local candidate then it was reasonable to employ an expatriate.
I don’t know much about the Local Content Policy but I would think that qualified Guyanese should be given the opportunity even if they have dual citizenship.
Yours truly,
Name supplied
Guyanese/USA citizen
