Kaieteur News – The first round of the Secure Innovations and Concepts Inc. (SIC)/ Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) Endurance Championships has been green-lit to speed off on January 24 and the motorsport community has greeted it with much anticipation with dozens of competitors signaling their intention to race.
Continuing its support of motor racing in Guyana is First Class Auto Spares and Sales that has decided to be part of this historic meet with a $50,000 sponsorship.
Representative of the First Class Auto; Richard Hamid who also competes in the 1500cc class, in an invited comment to the media, noted that he is pleased that the Executive of the GMR&SC has managed to successfully negotiate the return of motorsports following the curtailed 2020 season brought about by covid-19.
Hamid, who also competes in the 1500cc class, noted that himself like other competitors are eager to race but they understand that it will not be like before and that extra safety protocols will have to be followed to ensure that everyone is protected.
To date, dozens of drivers have already signaled to be part of the three-hour race including defending champion, Adrian Fernandes, lap record holder; Rameez Mohamed, MotilallDeodass, ‘Afo’ Harper, ‘White Boy’, Richard and his brother Reeyaz Hamid and Harold ‘Topgun’ Hopkinson.
The GMR&SC has explained to this publication that potential competitors, that special covid-19 rules and protocols will be provided in the coming week to ensure the safety of drivers, mechanics, officials and everyone involved at the event.
Prospective competitors are reminded that helmets and gloves are required and those interested in competing are asked to make contact with the GMR&SC via the Albert Street office.
