Dear Editor,
I am calling on the new Irfaan Ali led administration to give back Freddie Kissoon his job at the University of Guyana. Throughout the five-month rigging saga, many individuals (including notable figures at the university) showed their slip in standing in solidarity with the rigging process.
While figures like Mark Benschop and Rickford Burke incited their supporters night after night possibly for opportunistic reasons, Mr. Kissoon threw away his grouse with the PPP/C and advocated for the will of the people to be realized. That advocacy came from someone who lost his job during the Ramotar government of which he was a harsh critic of.
We need figures like this man (Kissoon) and less of despicable characters who reared their heads, reaching out to our youth. And it is my contentious belief that Mr. Kissoon’s wrongful termination be rectified and he returned to UG.
After all, the new Government should be grateful for activists such as Kissoon, who fought hard against the return of a Burnhamite dictatorship.
Suresh Kissoon
