Dear Editor,
Please publish this letter so as to bring awareness to the citizens of Guyana as to the way law abiding citizens are being treated.
It is almost three weeks now that the East Bank hire car park was been cut by half leaving operators struggling for survival.
This matter has been brought to the attention of the Town Clerk, the Mayor of Georgetown, the senior police of Brickdam Station, with only promises made to look into the matter.
Nothing has been done.
So today, the drivers would like to bring to the attention of the relevant authorities our problems with a view of solving it.
If the police claim we have been removed to clear the road, then we invite the relevant authorities to see roadside beer gardens has been set up on the very spot the cars were forced out of. These very beer gardens comprises of 10×10 tent, with old fridges and benches to sit on making the area looking like a shanty town.
We are asking the relevant authorities if it is a deliberate act to remove us to accommodate more roadside vending?
These vendors cause more confusion on the road than we do as hire car drivers.
Please someone…do something for us in this time when Guyana is going through COVID-19 crisis and Christmas is near.
Help us to survive. Thank you… from the oppressed drivers.
Sheik Omar
