Favoritism at GEA

Dear Editor,

I write to publicly express a growing concern with respect to the issue of fuel licences being granted and, in some cases, revoked by the head of the Guyana Energy Agency. Recent evidence indicates an inconsistent application of the criteria for the granting of fuel import licences being done by the head of GEA without any concern about storage capacity or experience in the handling of fuel.
There is also the question of favoritism which is currently being raised.
I, therefore, recommend a thorough review of the process by the new board to ensure that fairness and transparency remain the guiding principles on which the organization functions.
I wish attorney-at-law Jerome Khan and his new board well and hope that their first order of business is a review and thorough assessment of the licencing process.
