DEAR EDITOR,
Once again I am writing to express my disappointment in the dumping of garbage in the North Sophia village. It has been a bit over a month that I first addressed this situation surprisingly people were scared to dump after seeing the article published. However that fear only lasted for a short time, sad to say the dumping has continued. Only recently on 19th October, a young man with a horse cart decided to bring a cart load of tyres to dump it at the same location. When he was told he cannot dump there, the young man went on to mouth profanities.
One of Albert Einstein’s famous quotes says, “Any fool can know, the point is to understand”. I don’t think people understand that this reckless dumping of garbage is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, houseflies, other insects and not forgetting wildlife (snakes, etc.), that can lead to many infectious diseases. It is their lack of education on basic life etiquettes and unhygienic lifestyle that reproduces such atrocious behaviour. Folly behaviour have consequences. They are breaking the laws.
There is only so much I can do. I have done a bit of cleaning.
The experience was unpleasant. Bags and bags of garbage, from old household appliances to human waste. I am pleading with the authorities, this is something that is becoming a nuisance. It is a nasty habit of people within the Community.
Respectfully,
A concerned citizen
