End to use of selective media houses…
Kaieteur News – With the aim of ensuring wide coverage, Minister of Public Affairs, Kwame McCoy, revealed that online entities have now been added to the list of existing agencies to receive government advertisements.
In a statement to the press yesterday, Minister McCoy stated that his attention was brought to the issue of selective media houses being chosen to carry the government’s public service announcements and ads.
“This will no longer obtain,” the minister indicated, while adding, “With the exception of specific and decision factors such as geographic reach, nature of message or any such consideration, as a matter of government policy, all ministers and agencies are now required to ensure that all newspapers, television, radio stations and even online entities receive equal consideration in the placement of ads.”
These, the statement noted, must encompass the State and private entities.
The government’s Department of Public Information (DPI) has an Advertising Department which is responsible for the placement of Public Service Announcements and other forms of advertisements. DPI will therefore serve as the conduit for this process and will also provide guidance and assistance in the determination of the placement of ads, based on the factors outline above.
