A 70-year-old man died yesterday afternoon, pushing the COVID-19 death toll to 55.
“The Ministry of Health (MOH) regrettably informs that as of 17:00hrs on September 12, 2020, one other person who tested positive for the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has died,” a Ministry of Health statement said.
The latest fatality is from the Demerara/Mahaica (Region 4) who died while receiving care at a government medical facility.
“The MOH expresses sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance needed,” the statement said.
Officials of the Ministry have contacted all relatives and persons to facilitate contact tracing and rapid assistance to everyone who may have been exposed to the now-dead person.
“The Ministry is also appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the deceased and his family and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.”
This latest death would have followed two more earlier in the day.
The deaths reportedly occurred at midnight on September 11.
The two deaths were said to be a 62 -year-old male from Cuyuni/Mazaruni (Region 7) who passed away while receiving care at a medical facility/
The other is said to be a 67-year-old man from Barima/Waini (Region 1) area.
Additionally, the Ministry reported that there are 49 new cases moving the overall total to 1,812
According to the regional breakdown, four cases were recorded in Region One; two in Region Two; three in Region Three; 26 in Region Four; one in Region Seven and 13 in Region Nine.
Further, new dashboard outlined that there are 48 persons in institutional isolation and 504 persons in home isolation.
So far, 1,191 persons have recovered while 86 suspected cases are in institutional quarantine.
