‘Days like Dese’ – the local sitcom which returned to television last month, is placing some much needed focus on the COVID -19 pandemic.
Producer of the show, Gem Madhoo-Nascimento, explained that “each week a new episode is released and aired nationwide on all 21 television stations — from Bartica to Charity and from Linden all the way to the Upper Corentyne.
“At least five stations in the county of Berbice are airing it. After each episode is completed, it is then uploaded to YouTube. Check our Facebook page ‘days like dese’ for airing schedule on all local channels,” said Madhoo-Nascimento.
The local producer noted, however, that it is a very challenging task to shoot a sitcom during the pandemic.
“We have to ensure the team of cast and crew observe the rules and all the guidelines for COVID-19,” said Madhoo-Nascimento who plays the critical role of carefully guiding the creative team of Kirk Jardine and Rochelle Christie in their scriptwriting. But the situation has so far been manageable since, according to Madhoo-Nascimento, “not too many cast members are in one episode – a maximum of four persons in the same setting/scene.”
However, the crux of the challenge to shooting a family oriented show during a pandemic of contagious proportion is in fact the needed precautionary measures of social and physical distancing.
But every effort is made to ensure that the measures are adhered to, Madhoo-Nascimento noted.
She explained, “There is no physical contact for actors except in cases where they are direct family members involved, all crew are masked and actors, if they have to be close, at least one is wearing a mask. If there is actual ‘touching’ in a scene, sanitizer wipes and spray are readily on hand for use after the scene.”
According to the producer, ‘Days like Dese’ is the theatre community of notable actors presenting to the public an educational and entertaining programme to help fight the pandemic that is affecting all of us.
“We encourage all viewers to share with their friends and family so we could beat the pandemic,” she urged.
Episode one of season three of the 15-minute sitcom with its main theme on COVID -19 began airing on Friday, August 21 last. Episode three, Madhoo-Nascimento informed, began airing on Friday, September 4, last.
Some of the main sponsors of the programme include: Toolsie Persaud Ltd., Chungs Global Inc., Church’s Chicken, Infinity Service Station, Nand Persaud and Co. Ltd, NALICO/NAFICO Insurance Co. Ltd., Guyana Power and Light, GAICO Construction and General Services, Guyana Revenue Authority, JB Consultancy and NAMILCO.
