Recognize the contribution of Freddie Kissoon and others

Dear Editor,

I wish to congratulate the new President Irfaan Ali and recognize the great work of those who were involved in that struggle for free and fair elections, in particular the recount, protecting the ballot boxes, and calling on David Granger to accept the results. Several eminent personalities like Roshan Khan, Chris Ram, Kit Nascimiento, Dr. Vishnu Bisram, Freddie Kissoon, Nigel Hinds, Ron Sanders, among other eminent personalities, as well as Kaieteur News and other media houses appealed to David Granger to concede. I applaud Freddie for writing daily exposing the fraud and the duplicitous nature of coalition personalities. I salute all of them for contributing so honorably to bring about the change in administration and I petition the PPP leadership to reward them for their work. Without their intervention, democracy would have remained stifled. I agree with Freddie that a bust should be made of the diplomats and other heroes who fought for democracy.
I personally pleaded on Mr. Granger to concede defeat for the good of nation. And I wish to acknowledge his gesture of magnanimity to peacefully demit office though he did so reluctantly under relentless international pressure.
I urge the new Irfaan Ali/Mark Phillips/Bharrat Jagdeo administration to recognize the contributions of those who protected democracy in their writings and in the ground. And I appeal to Jagdeo and Ali not to engage in the kind of bitterness that exemplified the coalition that victimized critics, political opponents, and others from within their own party that opposed them. It is very clear that some party stalwarts have been excluded from appointments because of their known opposition to the leadership.
In the response on social media and in the press in Guyana, all is not well with cabinet appointments. The government is already planting seeds of hate and enmity with the exclusion of key people from Ministries and the mismatch in appointments. It is also glaring that prominent names are missing in the lineup, among who are Charandass Persaud, Dharamkumar Seeraj, Peter Ramsaroop, Sase Gunraj, and Neil Marks. Some role must be found to reward these individuals. The Ali/Jagdeo leadership must not victimize its own especially Sase and Seeraj who played key roles at Gecom – the former championing the recount and the latter protecting the containers with the ballots, ensuring the change in administration.
