Dear Editor,
From many sources, tributes and call are being made – and rightly so – for us as Guyanese to express gratitude to a number of individuals and organizations who through their persistence and advocacy ensured the survival of our democracy. It is my opinion that foremost most among the recipients of such accolades should be your publication.
Kaieteur News has bravely stood as a beacon of hope, replete with facts and figures, and loudly proclaimed that democracy is basically about fair play. The time in which we live renders truth inimical to the self-interest of many who seek positions of leadership. In this regard your publication has always attempted to be pellucid in its coverage of our sad elections saga.
In stark contrast to those who sought to twist and bend the truth, while discombobulating the gullible segment of the electorate, Kaieteur has worthily and faithfully demonstrated what a decent newspaper should be – fair, unbiased and factual.
While not always meeting, in my humble opinion, all the high standards of professionalism, in this case you deserve copious credit for standing for right, standing democracy, thereby ensuring our survival as a free nation. Take a bow Kaieteur News, take a bow.
Yours truly,
Lennox Estwick
