The National Toshaos Council (NTC) in keeping with its mandate to prepare and implement strategies for the development of indigenous communities will be donating one hundred relief hampers and care packages to the village of Santa Rosa, Region one.
The hampers, inclusive of food supplies, personal care items and sanitization products will be distributed to immediate family members of persons affected by COVID-19 and vulnerable groups such as the elderly and single parent families.
Speaking with Kaieteur News, NTC’s Executive Director, Ms. Jude Da Silva noted that in wake of the recent upsurge of infected cases in the Moruca sub district, the NTC recognized that the families of infected patients were among those in dire need of assistance. This, she added, sparked the council’s initiative for the emergency drive.Da Silva noted that the NTC has collaborated with several individuals and organizations including the Guyana Women Miners Association, Conservation International, and Food for the Poor in the sourcing of items for the hampers. Additionally, the Director noted that the NTC will be providing care packages inclusive of masks, gloves, sanitizers and personal hygiene products.
The Director sought to urge all indigenous leaders and residents of communities facing the threat of COVID-19, to adhere to the guidelines set out by the Ministry of Public Health in an effort to eliminate the spread of the deadly virus. As for the NTC, it is encouraging persons interested in donating supplies towards this cause to make contact with its representatives on 592-621-7207.
