– CSEC students, invigilators to benefit
Digicel Guyana is once again honouring their corporate social responsibility with a donation of 13,000 reusable face masks and 2,500 face shields to the Ministry of Education. These will be used by the close to 15,000 students and invigilators across the 10 regions during the CSEC exams commencing July 13.
In a statement, Digicel Guyana’s Chief Executive Officer, Gregory Dean said, “We know it is a challenging time for all, so we thought it best to reach out to provide whatever support we could to the Ministry. We are happy that the Ministry responded favourably to our interest in partnering with them and we hope that this donation will provide some level of comfort to the students and invigilators”.
Ms. Viola Rowe, who is performing duties for the Chief Education Officer Ag., who is on annualised leave, noted: “This donation will certainly go a far way in helping to protect our children and our future.” She indicated that protective gear will be disbursed to several locations across the country starting today, with efforts being concentrated on regions that are more vulnerable and have limited resources at this time. These will be distributed to the Regional Education Offices then to the individual schools.
Ms. Rowe expressed her thanks on behalf of the Ministry of Education, to Digicel for their continued interest in the advancement of education, and in this instance, for the timely contribution towards the health and wellbeing of CSEC students in a COVID-19 environment.
