The Guyana Cricket Board said in a release that they are expressing bewilderment on the omission of Veerasammy Permaul from the Windies upcoming tour of England.
The release noted, “Permaul’s outstanding performances over the years have spoken for itself, and the GCB perceive performances as the strongest criteria for selection. In so doing, the GCB acknowledges that Permaul’s performances year after year has not only been exceptional, but unquestionable; and as such we are of the opinion that he should have been selected in the Windies squad.”
“In fact, the GCB finds Permaul’s omission from a Windies squad of 25 is very disturbing and as a result, the President of the GCB has since written to Johnny Graves, Chief Executive Officer of Cricket West Indies requesting a logical explanation.
The GCB implores Veerasammy Permaul to stay motivated and committed and wishes him continued success in his cricket endeavors,” the release concluded.
Three leading players in Daren Bravo of Trinidad, Guyanese Shimron Hetmyer and Kemo Paul opted out of the tour sighting fears and family concerns in heading to England at this juncture amidst the present coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic with England being hard hit. However, measures have been put in place for the players to have a bio-secure environment and games will be played without any fans.
Despite the withdrawal of the trio there is still no place for the consistent Permaul who has been among the leading wicket takers over the years in regional cricket and is known to not be a slouch with the bat when necessary.
