DEAR EDITOR,
I write in response to the letter from Hamilton Green published in Kaieteur News on 19th May 2020, captioned “GUYANESE ON EVERY SIDE OF THE DIVIDE MUST NOT TOLERATE THIS EYE-PASS”.
Hamilton Green asserts that having the GECOM accredited “Carter Center” in Guyana is a violation of Guyana’s sovereignty. This despite the Carter Center Mission, as co-headed by the former Senegalese Prime Minister Dr. Aminata Touré, having been invited and duly accredited by GECOM to observe the 2020 election, and hence having a legitimate status under the General Elections (Observers) Act.
It is rather hypocritical of Green to be raising the issue of Guyana’s sovereignty given the fact that his PNC, for which he served as Prime Minister, was not only the creation of London and Washington acting in unison in the 1950’s to keep a supposed pro-Moscow Jagan from office, but further the American State Department’s non-redacted archives show that the PNC was funded by the CIA until at least the 1970’s! Mr. Green where was the issue of Guyana’s sovereignty then?
Where is the current upholding of sovereignty when parties in Guyana, including his party, try to lobby Washington in their favour by hiring high profile Washington Firms?
Green’s mention of Manuel Noriega and his depiction of Noreiga as an imperialist victim, further adds to the ludicrousness of his letter. It is common knowledge that Noreiga was Washington’s agent in the Americas, openly assisting in the arming of the Nicaraguan Contras and other imperialist groupings, before falling out with his Pentagon paymasters over his share of drug money.
All that Green is doing is showing his support for the PNC.
