DEAR EDITOR,
A distinguished son of the soil is Dr. Cecil Edward Harricharran, who was awarded the Cacique’s Crown of Honour (CCH) at Guyana’s 50th republic anniversary award ceremony announced by President David Granger.
Dr. Cecil Edward Harricharran had served throughout the length and breadth of this beautiful country for over 60 years as a medical profession both in government and private practice. Being from Novar Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, he was well respected and fondly called ‘Uncle Doc’, and I must mention that he was a hardworking rice farmer.
I clearly remember during my childhood days when I attended Dr. Harricharran’s Clinic in Middle Street, Georgetown. He would always greet me and my mother in a jovial way.
When I got married my wife was from Novar, Mahaicony and ‘Uncle Doc’ continued to be our family doctor until he retired at 91 years of age. He is now enjoying his happiness with his loving and caring wife, daughters, sons -in- law, and most of all the grand children.
Best wishes.
Parmanand Ram
