The Amelia’s Ward basketball court is now renamed the Agnes Blair Basketball Court. It is named after the woman who was instrumental in getting the land for the recreational facility.
At the same time a Management Committee was elected to look after the running of it.
That Committee is headed by former Linden Amateur Basketball Association president Robert Archer.
Other executive members include Allister Webster as vice president, Secretary Ms. Cheryl either, Treasurer Kevin Joseph, Assistant Secretary Treasurer Numex Browne, and Committee members Shana Kitt, Wilfred Young and Shawn Kitt.
The new president Robert Archer said that soon they will seek recognition from the municipality and will explore ways and means of completing the rehabilitation work which is currently underway at the court.
The basketball court now has two new basketball backboards which were donated by the Brusche’s Basketball Foundation in association with former Linden resident Byron Freso through his Escalade sports organization.
Mrs. Agnes Blair, who is a senior living at Amelia’s Ward, was a pioneer of the Amelia’s Ward community, and made the approach to have the land allocated for the purpose of the construction of the basketball court according to Archer in the 1990s.
The new body will also have the work currently happening on the court be completed in time for the Linden town Week in April.
