Police are pleading with the public to help them identify a woman who was struck and killed in the vicinity of the Moblissa Bridge on the Linden Highway at around 23:40 hrs on Wednesday.
The woman, of mixed ancestry and appears to be in her late twenties. She was reportedly clad only in a pair of black short pants with white stripes at the time of her demise.
Police have detained an Amelia’s Ward, Linden resident, who was driving a hire car ((licence number HD1190) when the woman was struck.
The vehicle has been impounded at the Mackenzie Police Station.
Police said the driver told police that he was heading to Georgetown when the woman crossed in his path.
He attempted to avoid a collision but was unable to avoid hitting the woman.
The driver then called an ambulance service, which transported to victim to the Linden Hospital Complex. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is at the Wismar Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
