Guyana face Barbados away in first clash on March 26th; return game on 31st
It’s a matter of 60 days away for qualifying for the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup (back to back) for Guyana’s ‘Golden Jaguars’ and their first assignment on this trail would be against the ‘Barbados Tridents’ on March 26th in the Land of the ‘Flying Fish’.
The Guyanese team has been training consistently even after the conclusion of the 2019-2020 Concacaf Nations League (League B), which was won by Jamaica and this gave the ‘Reggae Boyz’ automatic qualification to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.
Guyana’s second place finish in the group propelled them into a two-round qualifier which would be a direct elimination format against the League C (Group A) winners, Barbados.
Given the fact that the matches would be contested during the FIFA international window, all the nations would have access to their international players. The high percentage of Guyanese living in Barbados are expected to be out in their numbers to cheer on the ‘Golden Jaguars’ on Thursday March 26th and five days later, it would be the return match here at the Leonora Track and Field Centre, Leonora, Tuesday March 31st.
Kick off time in Barbados would be 19:00hrs with the return fixture kicking off at 20:00hrs.
Head Coach Márcio Máximo had indicated in an earlier release that the team was already in training mode five days weekly and they are leaving no stone unturned as they want to be in pristine shape for both matches in this first phase.
GFF President, Wayne Forde had also indicated that his executive and members are fully behind Coach Máximo and team.
The winner of this two-match series would go on to play Trinidad and Tobago in June with the winner of this two-match series punching their tickets to the 16th edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2021.
Meanwhile, the 12 nations that have already qualified for the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup are Canada, Costa Rica, Curacao, El Salvador, Grenada, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Suriname and the United States.
