BCB/Stag Beer 50-Overs Final
The historic Port Mourant Cricket Ground, home to seven Test cricketers will tomorrow play host to the final of the 2019 Berbice Cricket Board/Stag Beer 50-Overs first division tournament. Rivals Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour and Tucber Park Cricket Club would battle for the $100 000.00 first prize.
The BCB is dedicating this final in memory of the legendary Basil Butcher, A.A who would be buried this weekend in his home village of Port Mourant. The late Butcher played 44 Test matches for the West Indies after making his debut versus India in 1958.
Butcher, an inductee in the BCB Hall of Fame was also named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1970.
The Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolt Flour Team has been dominating first division cricket in Berbice over the last few years and would be led by former national player Eon Hooper.
Veterans, Delbert Hicks and Khemraj Mahadeo, National Youth Player Junior Sinclair, Jason Sinclair, Surendra Kissoonlall, Jonathan Rampersaud. Hooper would lead a strong batting line up.
Pacer Sylus Tyndall would likely share the new ball with former Berbice Under-19 left arm spinner Keith Simpson. Off spinners Junior Sinclair, Hooper, Rampersaud and leg spinner Shawn Pereira would offer support in the mostly spin based bowling attack.
Tucber Park would miss the services of Romario Shepherd and Nial Smith who are currently on West Indies and Guyana duties, respectively. Their batting would center around Martin Singh, Garfield Benjamin, veteran Anthony D’Andrade, Clinton Lindie, Devon Clements along with Kieon De Jesus, Malcolm Mickle, Joemal La Fleur and the ultra aggressive Damien Vantull. National youth players Gevon Schultz and Leon Swammy would share the new ball with support from off spinners Joemal La Fleur, Kwesi Mickle, Martin Singh, Devon Clements and left arm spinner Vantull.
The Stag Beer finals would be the first of three first division finals to be played over the next two weeks.
