A businessman who resides at Broad Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, is now in police custody after he was reportedly found discharging a loaded firearm Wednesday around 06:15 hrs.
Kaieteur News understands that several police ranks on mobile patrol were on duty, patrolling the La Penitence area when they heard two loud explosions that appeared to be gunshot coming from the Broad Street area.
Upon arriving at the area the ranks saw the businessman with a black gun in his hand. It was then the businessman produced a license proving that he is the rightful owner of the weapon.
According to sources, the businessman was told of the allegation and was subsequently arrested. His firearm a .32 Taurus pistol was seized and lodged.
The area was checked and two .32 spent shells were found and lodged but the businessman has refused to have his hands swab and remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
Police did not name the businessman or disclose the nature of his business.
When contacted a police source told Kaieteur News that several youths who would normally be around the businessman claimed that the man had planned to discharge the gun since it’s the holiday season.
