A 27-year-old ex-Guyana Defence Force rank was yesterday released on $200,000 bail after being slapped with a manslaughter charge in relation to the death of a fruit vendor of Portuguese Quarters, Corentyne, Berbice.
Appearing at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alex Moore was Terrence Roopnarine called ‘Terry’ of David Rose Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice. Roopnarine was charged with manslaughter.It is alleged that on Tuesday 24th December at Rose Hall Town, Roopnarine unlawfully killed Stephen Lewis called ‘Shabba’.
He was not required to plea since the charge was indictable, but Police Prosecutor Lance Corporal Matheson did not object to bail under the conditions that he lodge his travel documents prior to release, and report to Rose Hall Outpost every Tuesday and Friday.
He is to make his next appearance at the Albion Magistrate’s Court on February 18, 2020.
