Topp XX tackle Botafago; Coomacka face Net Rockers
The seventh-edition of the Upper Demerara Football Association’s (UDFA) GT Beer Christmas football kicks off tonight in Linden despite the fact that the UDFA could not being able to confirm the prize monies beverage giants Banks DIH is offering when they met with the participating teams.
This uncertainty has led to the reigning champions Eagles United pulling out along with Blueberry Hill but the tournament will still go ahead from tonight at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
A UDFA official said that they were expected to hear from Banks DIH yesterday (Thursday) in terms of what they are contributing to this year’s championship. Ten teams are listed to compete with the opening matches featuring Topp XX and Botafago from 19:00hrs followed by Coomacka Mines facing Net Rockers in the main attraction.
The teams have been placed into three groups; Group A consists of Coomacka, Net Rockers and Silver Shattas, Group B has Hi Stars, Winners Connection and Capital FC while Group C is made up of Topp XX, Amelia’s Ward, Aroiama and Botafago.
The playing dates are December 13th, 15th, 18th, 20th, 23rd, 26th, 29th – semifinals and the final on January 1st, New Year’s Day.
