The second annual KFC Goodwill schools’ football tournament that kicks off on December 14th at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on
Carifesta Avenue will be a bigger and better affair this time round and COEMA Construction and Services Inc. has signed on in a supporting role to ensure the event’s success following a simple ceremony at the MOE ground yesterday.
This year’s tournament will see an increase from four to six teams participating including defending champions; Shiva boys’ Hindu College of the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.
Meanwhile, USL Montjoly of French Guiana and Waramadong will be the newcomers. Annai Secondary that had some spirited performances in last year’s tournament will return, while the final two spots will be taken by the winners and runners-up of the ongoing Guyoil/Tradewind Tankers schools’ football league.
COEMA Guyana that is based in region nine has been in existence for over two years now with the parent company based in the Boa Vista, Brazil and the director, Dereck Melville, noted that, “We are happy to support and that we are able to contribute to the development of sports in Guyana, no matter which region the event will be contested.”
Co-director of Petra Organisation that is promoting the event, Troy Mendonca, expressed thanks to COEMA Guyana for their support to the development of Guyana’s Human Resource.
The tournament will be played in the group round-robin/knockout format with the six teams being divided into two groups of three with the two top teams advancing to the semifinals that will kick off on December 20th and the finals on December 22.
