The 2019 Nationals’ School Championships is currently in progress and many are extremely happy with the way the athletes are performing. Some take notes and are making a comparison with last year’s. Praises should be given to our hinterland students and their huge turnout.
Children are slowly getting interested in sports and the realization of where that could take/or what it could make them. Sadly, they are not getting enough. These students need more practice, sponsorship, better facilities to practice.
Guyanese have a unique way of excelling in whatever they embark on, either locally or overseas, and they always make Guyana proud. They should be able to train in comfort. Many of them have no proper gears and now that they come out to the Nationals, they are given gears that would in most cases make then uncomfortable, because they have not gotten accustomed to them.
With the promises by this administration, Berbice and Linden are expecting synthetic tracks, but when is a mystery. Many who are running presently might have not run on a track or road before, so we could understand that would affect the child.
Without practice, they would not be perfect, thus the authorities and society should come together and help them. See what their needs are and get sponsors from within the villages.
Many children go to the Stewartville school compound to play football and other sports, and they eventually play until late in the night. That keeps them away from trouble and at the same time, they are developing themselves. For years they have been playing there in the darkness. Can the authorities please put some spotlights around the compound to assist them? There are numerous places around that are being neglected, but once maintained, would help the children tremendously.
Why do we in society have to raise these issues when you have Councillors and Party Members who are seeing these needs that would help to develop a society and are staying quiet?
