Yesterday’s Guyana Cricket Board’s U-17 Female T20 Cricket final between Georgetown Hitters and Lower Corentyne Thunders was washed out at Everest and by virtue of having a better net run rate, Hitters were named Champions.

We are the Champions! GT Hitters with GCB’s Kavita Yadram after the washed-out finals at Everest yesterday.
The final was scheduled for Everest from 10:00hrs yesterday but torrential overnight and morning rain put paid to any chance of play. Hitters dethroned last year’s winners Essequibo Hurricanes as they finished the preliminary rounds with the most points.
GT Hitters, East Coast Stars, Upper Corentyne Strikers, Lower Corentyne Thunders, West Demerara Heat, East Bank Warriors were the teams involved.
The tournament was divided into two Groups with Group ‘A’ comprising of Upper Corentyne Strikers, West Berbice, Georgetown Thunders and West Demerara Heat.
Defending champions Essequibo Hurricanes were grouped with East Bank Demerara Warriors, East Coast Sixers and Lower Corentyne Thunders in group B
Two matches were played on the same day at Everest in the City, Young Warriors in Canje Berbice and Lusignan on the East Coast. The first match started at 09:00hrs while the afternoon games commenced at 13:00hrs.
The second annual tournament was held in collaboration with Social Services Office of the Childcare and Protection Agency, the Ministry of Education and the National Sports Commission. (Sean Devers)
