Chung’s Global Enterprise, one of the country’s leading Construction companies yesterday threw their support behind the November 9-10 Mackeson/Rawle Toney 3X3 Basketball Classic, which will be held at the Burnham Basketball Court in the City.
The tournament which will feature some of the top 3X3 teams from across Guyana has as its first place prize, $300,000 while second and third placed teams will receive $100,000 and $50,000, respectively.
Tansy Plowell, Assistant to the CEO of the company, Cleon Chung, upon making her presentation to Organiser Rawle Toney at their 622 A Industrial Reserve Mandela Avenue location, said the entity was pleased to be associated with the tournament, given the fact it seeks to rejuvenate interest in the sport.
Plowell added that Chung’s Global Enterprise is known for its generosity and they were happy to support sports, more so the shortened format of basketball. Meanwhile, Toney thanked Plowell and Chung’s Global Enterprise, while adding, “I’m happy with the support given to the tournament so far and I want to particularly thank Mr. Cleon Chung and his company for coming on board. I consider this tournament a ‘give back’ to basketball, since the sport is badly lacking relevance in Guyana’s local sports landscape.
I believe that the sport is presently left behind and I see this tournament as one of the ways I can help the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) and its affiliates to bring fans back to the sport,” Toney said.
FireSide Grill, the Guyana Lottery Company’s Let’s Bet Sports, Trophy Stall, Kester Gomes’ STUFF and Ansa McAl Trading are the other sponsors so far.
