The people and the courts of Guyana are set to benefit from the service of newly sworn in Attorney-at-law, Grace Bhagwandeen-Rajnauth.
Ms. Rajnauth a Trinidadian by birth, is of Guyanese and Trinidadian parentage. She is married to Guyanese businessman, Ron Rajnauth and now lives in Guyana at Kent Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Her application, for admission to practise as an Attorney-at-Law in the Courts of Guyana, was presented before Justice Brassington Reynolds in the Berbice High Court. Her petition was presented by Attorney-at-law and former Principal Magistrate Chandra Sohan.
Mr. Sohan in a stirring presentation to the court urged Justice Reynolds to accept Ms. Bhagwandeen-Rajnauth’s petition.
“She has all the qualities to become a good attorney and would be an asset to the judicial system,” he said.
Justice Brassington Reynolds welcomed her to the Judicature of Guyana. He made reference to her qualifications, Caribbean Integration and she being a Caribbean woman, her background and her love of helping people. Ms. Bhagwandeen-Rajnauth was awarded a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of the West Indies in July 2013. She was then awarded the Legal Education Certificate from the Council of Legal Education of the Commonwealth Caribbean in September 2015.
She was admitted to practise as an Attorney-at-law before the Courts in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in October 2015.
Before being admitted to practise as an Attorney-at-law, Ms. Bhagwandeen-Rajnauth was employed and attached to the Public Service Appeal Board of Trinidad and Tobago as a Legal Research Officer in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The young attorney is the mother of a three-year-old son.
Attorney-at-law Bhagwandeen-Rajnauth stated that she always wanted to become a lawyer since she was very young because she was always interested in justice and being an advocate for justice and fairness and giving a voice to the voiceless.
She has special interest in the rights of the child, and the rights of women especially with regards to domestic violence.
She is an only child and close to her parents, family and friends in Trinidad.
Migrating to Guyana was difficult at first, but with the love of her husband, family and colleagues in Berbice, she has overcome and is willing to see what contribution she can make to Guyana in the legal arena.
For now, she will be working along with Attorney-at-law and former Magistrate Charlene Artiga.
