The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) BKT Sevens championships head into Round 2 today at the National Park Athletics Field from 12 noon. Leading the points table is Panthers Rugby Club coached by Larry Adonis with 16 points (two wins and two walkovers) followed by Newcomers Police Falcons coached by Theo Henry and Michael Whitehead on 12 points (one win, one loss, two walkovers) and the Guyana Defense Force coached by Oslen Olivierre in third place on 8 points, (two walkovers, two losses).
Bringing up the last two positions are Pepsi Hornets and Yamaha Caribs who are yet to take to the field conceding walk over points to the three leading teams. The championship is scheduled to be completed next Sunday with the third and final round.
The winner and runner-up positions would be determined by the point’s standings at the end of the final round. BKT, an Indian based tire company has as its local dealers, Ganesh Spare Parts who were instrumental in securing a quantity of playing balls for the GFRU under the BKT Brand.
The GRFU also commenced and Under-19 competition on Saturday last and will be played every Saturday until November month end.
The players have been divided into four teams playing each other as the Union works towards selecting a National U19 as well as Development teams (male and female) for selection to tour French Guiana, December 15-16, next.
