The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) organised Let’s Bet Sports 100 Ball tournament which is proving to be very popular in the Ancient County, continued on Sunday last. Cotton Tree Cricket Club of West Berbice clinched a place in the final of the West Berbice leg of the tournament after defeating 9-man Bush Lot Rising Star Cricket Club in the quarter finals and then Blairmont in the semifinals.
Bush Lot Rising Star batting first was dismissed for 112 in 15.1 overs with Winston Joseph 34, Dillon Joseph 26 and Maroin Mahadeo 17 being the principal scorers. Left arm-spinner Waqar Hassan 3 for 14 and Off spinner Narshad Gafoor 2 for 12 were the best bowlers for the home team.
In response, Cotton Tree raced to 114 for 2 in just 11 overs, Pooran Persaud lashed 56 and Nick Ramsaroop 32 not out. Akeem Miller and Dillon Joseph took a wicket apiece Bush Lot Rising Star.
In the semifinals, Blairmont were bundled out for 75 in just 9.1 overs. Talented wicketkeeper Zameer Nazeer scored 28 while only Saeed Khan 10 of the other batsman reached double figures.
Waqar Hassan continued his fine form with the ball to take 3 for 13, Daniel Harrinarine 2 for 17 and Narshad Gafoor 2 for 29. Needing to score 76 off 100 balls to reach the final, Cotton Tree breezed to 78 for 2 from 8.1 overs with Nick Ramsaroop scoring 44 (4×4 3×6) while Saif Ramah was unbeaten on 22.
A date will now have to be set for the West Berbice final which would be played at the Cotton Tree Ground. The home team would be spearheaded by Pooran Persaud, Nick Ramsaroop, Narshad Gafoor, Waqar Hassan, Roshan Gafoor and Daniel Harrinarine.
D’Edward Cricket Club would start as favourites as they have a strong team on paper that reached the final of the 2018 New Building Society Ltd 40-overs tournament. They also won the Perry Gossai T20 tournament earlier this year when they defeated the same Cotton Tree CC at the Bush Lot Ground.
They would be led by the veteran Jaipaul Heralall with support from Devindra Lalsa, Abdool Subhan, Heeralall Bridgelall, Altaf Khan and Keith Fraser. The West Berbice champion would then face off with the champions of the Upper Corentyne, Lower Corentyne and New Amsterdam/Canje segments to determine the overall Berbice-Let’s Bet Sports 100 Ball champion.
BCB President Hilbert Foster informed that the different tournaments are on course to be completed by the end of November.
