The Ansa McAL Trading Ltd. sponsored Handicap Squash tournament serves off today at the usual venue, The Georgetown Club Inc. Courts on Camp Street with matches every day until the final on Sunday. Around 35 players of varying ages and abilities will battle in two categories; Open and Category A.
With many of the junior players on a uphill move, players such as Samuel Ince-Carvalhal, Gianni Carpenter, Michael Alphonso and Nicholas Verwey will be vying in the Open Category against seasoned players Deje Dias, Nicholas Naraine and Javed Rahaman.
Category A will hail a new champion as one of the younger players will have the chance to take home the trophy this year since the previous stars have now moved up to the Open category. The top seed in category A is Zachary Persaud and all eyes will be on him to do well.
The handicap points will even out the playing field and will see top seeded players trying to endure long rallies to climb the point deficient they will be awarded. Both categories will no doubt boast some outstanding squash. Matches will be the best of 3 games and will play to 15 points.
Matches begin at 18:00hrs on the weekdays, while there will be an afternoon and evening session on Saturday with the respective finals on Sunday from 11:00hrs.
