Guyana’s Keevin Allicock campaign at the World Boxing Championship that is being held in Yekaterinburg, Russia, came to a premature end after losing his first bout to Finnish pugilist, Arsian Khataev, Tuesday night.
However, in a correspondence to Kaieteur Sport, President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, noted that he was pleased with the young fighter’s performance which he described as commendable.
Khataev is a seasoned fighter on the European circuit according to Ninvalle and he disclosed that the Fin had to drop some pounds to drop from Lightweight to Featherweight, while Allicock had to move up from Bantam to featherweight but judging from the youngster’s spirited performance, Ninvalle is confident that more exposure will only continue his gradual improvements.
“We at the level of the GBA applaud Keevin for being able to represent Guyana well. He was against a taller and stronger opposition and he gave a very good account of himself,” the correspondence read.
In video footage seen by this publication, Allicock was sharing blow for blow with his opponent and the fight could have gone either way.
