With the summer weather in full swing, golfers took to the course excitedly for the rescheduled Odyssey Sightseeing Tours Guyana Inc. tournament on Saturday September 7 last.
Club President Hussain produced an outstanding performance to emerge Best Net (overall champion) ahead of great performances also from Guillermo Escarraga and Brian Hackett. “It was a peculiarly splendid day’s performance for me,” President Hussain explained, “I hit the ball straighter and longer than I had ever done before, and on almost all the par 5’s I was putting for eagles! It was great!” Meanwhile, keen performances from other golfers ensured that he was only one stroke in the lead at the end of the day.
Veteran golfer and host of the tournament CEO Feroze Barakat, who also participated, indicated that Odyssey Sightseeing Tours was delighted to be supportive of the Golf Club and was committed to continuing that support.
Manager Troy Khan was on hand to assist with the distribution of prizes to winners of the Odyssey Tournament.
Prizes were awarded to the first 2 Net places in each flight. Winners and golfers of honourable mention in the three flights played were as follows:
In the 20 – 28 flight: Guillermo Escarraga (68/22) – 1st; Brian Hackett (also 68/22) – 2nd; Philbert London (73/21), Maurice Solomon (73/24), Carlos Adams (74/26) and Eureka Giddings (75/28) performed creditably.
In the 11 – 19 flight: Lekhnarine Shivraj (71/16) – 1stand Ravindra Harry (72/16) – 2nd. In fact, 2nd place was a tie between Ravindra Harry, William Walker (72/12) and Patanjilee Persaud (72/16). Additionally, David Harry 74/16 andFeroze Barakat 76/17 performed well.
In the 0 – 10 flight: Aleem Hussain (67/9) – 1st; Avinash Persaud (72/2) – 2nd. Former Captain Patrick Prashad produced a fine 74 off a 9 handicap to be placed 3rd in that flight.
Specialty prizes Nearest the Pin was won by Brian Hackett, while Longest Drive and Best Gross were won by reigning Guyana Open champion Avinash Persaud.
Other specialty prizes were awarded to William Walker for the close 2nd tie with Ravindra Harry, and to Sung Soo Han – Architect of the new United Nations complex in Kingston – for the Most Honest Visiting Golfer.
