The Matarkai Indigenous Heritage Football and Cricket qualifiers continued over the weekend at Sebai and Oronoque recreational ground, Port Kaituma, region one.
Host Sebai Invincible FC defeated Oronoque FC 4-0 on a brilliant outfield as they topped the points table with six points from two games in the female segment and won the bragging rights to represent Matarkai at the regional playoff schedule for September 7th and 8th, 2019 at Mabaruma.
Sebai Invincible Talons FC striker Feona Benjamin continued her brilliance with a double which took the leading goal scorer total to six goals in the competition, while Candacy Benjamin and Ravina Benjamin chipped in with one apiece.
Meanwhile, Five Star FC humbled Sebai FC in the Male segment 3-2 as the lads from the mining community ended on 6 points with 2 wins and 1 loss from their three games.
Five star FC Mark Bromes scored a double, while Karl Thompson contributed with a brilliant bicycle kick for their team which humbled the lads from Sebai as Dixon Benjamin and Sherwin Garraway scored in a losing cause.
On Sunday last Oronoque FC and PK United FC game ended in “Forfeiture” as Oronoque forfeited the game which resulted in them losing 3-0 to PK United according to the rules of the competition. As a result PK United were down to play Matthews Ridge Junior FC in the Matarkai finals yesterday at Fitzburg Recreational Ground.
Meanwhile, the International Import and supplies Cricket competition between Sebai and Port Kaituma / Canal bank was washed out. Both teams were to reach yesterday at Turu Mission/ Canal Bank for a Selection game to form the Matarkai cricket squad who will face Mabaruma in a friendly cricket match today at Canal Bank and a chance to play in the regional Competition at Mabaruma on September 7-8.
