The 2019 Limacol football tournament is set to be launched today at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on Carifesta Avenue. The event will follow the same round-robin knockout format with 12 teams being divided in three groups of four. The top two teams and the best two third placed teams will qualify for the quarterfinals.
Last year, Police Football Club took the championship honours from Camptown FC after beating Pouderoyen FC 4-2 in the final. Police entered the competition as the favourites to clinch the grand $600,000 first place cash prize.
Pouderoyen pocketed $300,000 for their second place finish. Riddim Squad edged Santos FC in the third place final to finish the tournament with $150,000 while Santos walked away with $75,000.
Police FC’s Anthio Wallace who netted a hat-trick in the final was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament that is backed by the New GPC.
