The Guyana United Artists (GUA) and the Movement for People’s Power (MFPP) will be holding a cultural event, an Art Exhibition and Poetry reading to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Great Civil Rebellion of 1979 – 2019.
The event will be staged in Main Street Georgetown on Friday 23rd of August, between 11am to 5pm. Lessons of the Great Civil Rebellion of 1979 are essential and necessary at this political junction in resolving Guyana’s political stalemate. The occasion saw the highest development of Guyanese working-class consciousness and solidarity. It struck a serious blow to race politics practiced by both the PPP and PNC, which has once again raised its ugly head following the NCM of December 21st, 2018.
As Guyanese, we need to reflect on our recent history to fully understand the part these two parties played in undermining the democratic process and compromising our Independence and Territorial Integrity as a nation. Our Natural resources are being plundered by transnationals while Guyana remains the second poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. What prospects have Guyanese in the oil/gas sectors with these greedy, heartless political Elites.
Come out in your numbers in remembrance of our brothers and sisters who gave their lives so that we could live as human beings and not exist as sub-humans.
Yours Faithfully
Desmond Alli (General Secretary G.U.A)
