Election Fever is in the air once again, and when the election actually happen, it seems the results will predictably, show the same percentage of votes for the respective two major parties, in the main voting regions 2,3,4,5,6 & 10, as the same for all the previous elections. It doesn’t matter who win, the same area votes for the same parties nationally, the winner in a fair election will win, because the voters of the other party, feeling betrayed and misrepresented by their own, will not vote on Election Day.
People will vote for a Government, then complain the very day, the Government they voted for is not doing anything for their wellbeing or betterment, but their duty to vote, is to prevent the other party from winning. This has been the brainless cycle of Guyana’s Politics, since the so-called Independence was obtained by Guyana.
The number of voters casting ballots in elections is drastically going down, I can understand that many people feel they don’t have a viable choice, since many of the names that are in the political arena, seem to have been there forever. Also, instead of characteristics and attributes from the Leaders and vying for Leadership Officials like, progressive vision, innovation, accountability, transparency, unity, law and order, financial efficiency, community development, etc, they have, old age, health complications, racial ranting, dual citizenship, neglect of duty to citizens, fraudulent dealings and accreditations, constitutional non-compliance, non-transparency, state assets giveaway, etc.
So Guyana Voters, you have never exercised your real power as Citizens of Guyana so far, and have always voted “Aapanjaat”, hoping, whom you voted in, will provide the necessary wellbeing and betterment you deserve. As you have experienced, this type of voting has been a dismal failure. Not voting in the next Election, is not an option for you Voters, since this solves nothing.
In the US and Canada ( the realm of Guyana’s Diaspora), The Conservatives and Democrat Liberals, have forty plus percentage base support, and come election time, the independent and switch voters will decide the Election. North America is between Guyana and Western Europe in Political Affairs.
In Democratic Western Europe, the citizens tell Government Elected Officials, “We are your Employers, You work for Us, WE produce and pay taxes so you can have a nice job plus a nice life, with the pay and benefits that come with the job, but remember at the end of the day my family’s well-being and betterment is my first priority, not because we look alike and not because I know you, and if you can’t deliver the expectations I have, don’t run for office and go find another job”. These countries have strict oversight of Government Officials, if Government Officials expenses exceed 200 Euros, they better have a good reason, or it is grounds for dismissal. If Government Officials exceed their budgets by 2000.00 Euros, it will entail a criminal investigation and if they do dealings with state assets in secret, they get charged with treason. This is why these countries lead the world in the best countries to live in with low stress citizens.
So Guyana Future Voters, will you evolve and make your own destiny with the power you have? Not voting or voting same old will give you same old Government. The Foreign Interest is there to Exploit, they don’t have your interest at heart, The Government as it seems, will only look after themselves and close acquaintances, not you. If you Guyanese Voters do not evolve, the future will be ugly, don’t take my word for it, just look around you. The clock is ticking and every delay you make, a piece of Guyana gets taken from you.
