A top of the table clash which will most likely determine which nation tops the group is set for this evening when Guyana’s ‘Lady Jags’ takes on Saint Lucia on day four of the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship at the Leonora Track and Field Facility, Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
The penultimate day of action among the five competing nations is anticipated to be hot even though matches are set for the evening into night. Guyana has a clean bill to date having scored four (4) goals and conceding zero and will be going all out for their third win in as many matches.
Saint Lucia on the other hand has scored the most goals, nine (9) but has conceded five (5) in the matches they have played to date, winning all three. Their ambitions to end the group on a high will not be an easy task as they have to get past a confident ‘Lady Jags’ outfit.
The leading goal scorer of the group, Krysan St. Louis (#7), Captain of Saint Lucia who has found the nets on five occasions in their last two matches will be the player for Guyana to keep quiet along her teammate, Tanika Bernard (#10) who has three goals, the two accounting for eight of their team’s nine goals.
Guyana, one of the more technically astute teams in this group would no doubt have done their homework on the Saint Lucians so fans can look forward to a well executed plan to contain their opponents as they push for their third win.
Jenea Knight, scorer of both Guyana’s goals in their 2-0 win over Bermuda, Captain Brianne Desa a solid rock in defense, Kiana Khedoo, Nailah Rowe, Serena McDonald, Aubrey Narine, Tiandi Smith and goalkeeper Anessa O’brien will all be combining efforts with their teammates with the hope of keeping their rock solid form intact.
Fans are being urged to come out and give the team that extra drive as the 12th man in their quest to in the first instance, qualify for the round-of-16 and then move on to win the group when they play their final match on Sunday afternoon against Suriname at the same venue and time.
This afternoon’s opening match from 18:00hrs is a bottom of the table clash between Suriname and Antigua & Barbuda, both hunting their first points. An entertaining evening of football is on the cards, admission is free.
