The Guyanese schools participating in the 33rd annual Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket tournament in Barbados on Monday suffered contrasting results with Queen’s College suffering their first loss in five games, two of which were no results, making the task of qualifying for the next stage highly improbable.
On the other hand, the Business School, after four consecutive defeats are also out of running to advance but beat Queen’s Park Club of Trinidad at Lears by 10 wickets.
The match was reduced to 30 overs; then the target was further revised to 78 off 15 overs.
Queen’s Park reached 119-8 in 23 overs when rain stopped play with Giovanni Ramdenny (38), Eric Garcia (22 not out), Darrien Dodds (14) and Jabari Phillip (11) getting into double figures.
Joel Gilkes 2-17, Ushardeva Balgobin 2-17 and Romel Zamal 2-19 had two wickets each, while Berbice U-19 pacer Christopher Harry followed up his four-wicket haul in the previous round with 2-30.
The Business School galloped to 79 without loss in seven overs with Ushardeva Balgobin 46 not out, Jamel Montel 22 not out sharing in an unbroken half-century partnership to see the Guyanese school to an emphatic victory. (Sean Devers)
