At the James Bryan Park, Queen’s College of Guyana suffered their second no-result in this year’s Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools cricket tournament in Barbados after their game against Foundation School of Barbados was called off on Friday without a ball being bowled due to the wet condition of the ground.
This was the only game in zone ‘A’ that the teams had to share the points due to adverse weather on the 166Sq Mile Island which is the most Eastern of the Caribbean nations.
The QC, coached by ‘old student’ former Guyana First-Class batsman Mark Harper, has won both of their completed matches with Mavindra Persaud (105) and Brandon Jaikaran (99) putting on a record 227 for the first wicket in their last game which they won by 10 wickets.
However, the Thomas and Camp Road institution, which has produced several National Youth and Senior Cricketers with Roger Harper going on to play 25 Tests and 105 ODIs for the West Indies, will hope for improved weather conditions since they have not lost any of their four matches but any more no-results could leave them in danger of not qualifying for the next round.
At Wayne Daniel ground in Zone ‘B’, Hamilton Lashley Foundation of Barbados handed The Business School of Guyana a three-wicket in a match reduced to 22 overs due to wet conditions to extend their losing streak to four games.
The Business School were bowled for 80 in 18.4 overs, Wayne McPherson top scoring with 20. He received token support from Ushardeva Balgobin (18) and Ariel Tilku (13) as Tireak Williams (4-7), Shakeem Boyce (2-12) and Vashdeo Persaud (2-10) for the Bajan School Hamilton who struggled to 81-7 in 18.2 overs.
Williams made an unbeaten 22 in a good all-round performance, while Kodi Brathwaite 12, Delon Prescod 10 and Jazz Griffith 10 were the other batsmen to reach double figures. Christopher Harry was the Business School’s best bowler with 4-34. (Sean Devers)
