DEAR EDITOR,
If one is to judge the actions of some political personality in the politics of this nation, it is easy to conclude that the interpretation of that ‘winner takes all’ system of politics to some, is to grab all you can of the nations resources, once you are given an opportunity to sit in the coveted office of government.
These honorable men and women have apparently ignored their oath to serve the people, and have allowed themselves to be consumed by greed, and selfishness. However, if Guyana is to come into that place of wealth and prosperity for all Guyanese, that ‘winner takes all’ system must become extinct, and so must those with the grab all for my self and friends mentally.
It is over fifty years since our independence and still our politicians seem to be putting the races against each other as the only way to get into power. They do not consider the damage caused to our people and nation by this unjust strategy of theirs. To them it is all about winning and talking all that they can.
My dear countrymen we have got to change this game. We must put men in government not for the colour of their skin, but for the tenderness of their heart towards our people, and the vision they have for the development of our nation. We must also hold those elected accountable for the resources placed in their hands, and demand that they deliver on the manifestos they present to us during their campaign for office.
Guyana is a child no longer, and our politics must show more maturity than the tit for tat foolishness we see displayed today. God has blessed us as a nation, and all of us and our offspring have a right to a fair share of the blessings. Every hand must clap the roti; no Guyanese must be deprived of a job because of the colour of his or her skin. This land is our land.
We must not give it up to no outsider. Neither must we support those who are building massive kingdoms for themselves and comrades off of stealing of our national resources. We must also embrace each other in love, and be proud to be Guyanese.
Finally, I wish to commend the President and Prime Minister of Guyana for the great efforts made to bring the nation together in unity. Thank you gentle men for a job well done.
Apostle Adrian Wade
