A disciplined bowling performance, led by man-of-the-match Latchman Kallicharan, handed Wellman Masters the Father’s Day T20 softball title which was contested on Sunday at Everest Cricket Club.
Following victories in their respective semi final matches played earlier, in which Wellman Masters defeated HS Masters and Fisherman Masters beat Ariel Masters, the two teams collided in the grand finale on a moist outfield and Wellman Masters prevailed by eight wickets.
Ewie Sharma uprooted the stumps of Patrick Khan (02) and had Jagdesh Persaud (00) caught, while Kallicharran bowled Zameer Hassan (02) as Fisherman Masters were reduced to 27-3, batting first in difficult conditions.
Troy Ramsaywack struck two fours and one six before he was caught off Kallicharran for a top score of 22, but apart from him, no other batsman offered any resistance as Fisherman Masters were bowled out for 53 in 15.2 overs. Kallicharran grabbed 3-14, while Sharma has 2-6, Sheldon Perch 2-16 and Rawle Reid 2-17.
Hassan removed opener Mahase Chunilall (08), while Pooran Singh disturbed the stumps of Sharma (00) as Wellm
an Masters suffered some nervous moments early in the chase to be at 16-2.
However, Lloyd Ruplall and Reid steadied the innings nicely with an unbeaten third wicket stand of 41 to see their team home as they finished on 57-2 in 7.5 overs. Ruplall struck three fours and one six in a top score of 32 while Reid made 12. Singh had 1-6 and Hassan 1-15.
The competition was sponsored by Patsan Trading, Brush Grocery, Pooran Electrical, Royal Glass and Friends bar, Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, Pete’s Real Estate and Ramchand’s Auto Parts. (Zaheer Mohamed)
