Liza Unity’s hull launched in China

China’s Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has launched the Liza Unity FPSO hull.

According to Eworldship.com, the hull hit the water on Saturday, June 8, 27 days ahead of schedule.
Once completed, the Liza Unity will be SBM’s first operational FPSO built under its Fast4Ward programme – a standardised FPSO designed to systematise the FPSO construction and delivery process, thus reducing cost and speeding up the time to the market.
The Dutch company ordered the hull from the Chinese shipyard in on speculation August 2017, without a contract in hand at the time. However, just last month, SBM Offshore confirmed the FPSO contract award with ExxonMobil for the deployment of the Liza Unity in Guyana for the development of the second phase of the Liza oil field.
SBM is also supplying an FPSO for the first phase – the Liza Destiny – scheduled to depart for Guyana soon. This FPSO is being built by Singapore’s Keppel, converted from a Very Large Crude Carrier.
Back to Liza Unity, once fully completed, the FPSO will be able to produce 220,000 barrels of oil per day will have associated gas treatment capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day and water injection capacity of 250,000 barrels per day.
The FPSO will be spread moored in a water depth of about 1,600 metres and will be able to store around 2 million barrels of crude oil. The Liza field is located in the Stabroek block circa 200 kilometres offshore Guyana.
ExxonMobil is the operator and holds a 45 percent interest in the Stabroek Block. Hess holds a 30 percent interest, and CNOOC holds a 25 percent interest.
