Guyanese cyclists enjoyed a fair outing at the Tour of Somerville Cycling Series in Somerville New Jersey on Monday last with Romello C

rawford winning the Men’s Open Category 2 contest while GCF President Horace Burrowes ended 6th in the Men’s Masters 40-99 Category 1/2/3.
Reports out of New Jersey indicate that Crawford completed the 30-mile distance in 49:29:00 sprinting home ahead of the 2nd placed Edwin Morel and 3rd placed, Trent Blackburn. Fellow Guyanese cyclists Lynn Murray ended 21st and Andre Abdool 75th in this category which saw 86 finishers, while 20 Did Not Finish.
In the Professional Category 1, a 50-mile contest, a total of seven (7) Guyanese contested with the highest placed out of 75 finishers being Johann Burrowes in 26th followed by Briton John (32nd), Raynauth Jeffrey (84th), Jermaine Burrowes (58th), Horace Burrowes (61st) and Paul Burrowes, 62nd.
The 2016 winner of this category, Scott Savory, was unable to complete the race as he was involved in a crash which resulted in him fracturing his clavicle. A total of 75 cyclists completed this race with 9 not doing so. The winner was Cannor Sallee in 1:38:14.
And in the Men’s Masters 40-99 Cat1/2/3 for a total of 25 miles, Horace Burrowes placed 6th out of a field of 90 riders. This category was won by Ernest Tautkus in 43:95:00, seven (7) riders did not complete the race.
The Tour of Somerville is a New Jersey Tradition since 1940 and is sanctioned by USA Cycling.
