The criminal offense of larceny appears to be on the increase on the Essequibo Coast, following a series of theft that were reported all across the region.
Essequibo’s television news anchor, Shawn Marks, and his wife were left traumatized Monday night after they were robbed by two men. Marks, who works at the RCA TV Station, Charity, was attacked around 22:00hrs Monday night, while making their way home.
According to Marks, he and his wife were attacked by two men who took away his wife’s purse, containing an undisclosed amount of cash and an iPhone 7 valuing over $250,000.
The reporter said that the bandits could be positively identified by his wife and the matter was reported to the Charity Police Station.
About 05:30 hrs yesterday morning, robbers struck again in a separate incident. This time the home of Mr. Rasheed Oullah, Anna Regina Town council Chief constable, was broken into. The man allegedly lost a quantity of cash, a television and jewelry along with other valuables.
The man told the media yesterday that his family had earlier secured the house before retiring to bed. When his wife was about to prepare breakfast the following morning, however, she discovered that the front door in lower flat of the home was opened.
Missing from the bottom flat was the family’s 40-inch Television Set, which went missing with a transformer, a box with Jewelry, US $250 and $90,000. Also missing were a gold band and three cell phones.
The matter was reported to the Anna Regina Police Station and investigations are still ongoing.
