“Since its formation in 1990 by three times Commonwealth Youth Service Awardee, the St. Francis Community Developers, the Rose
Hall Town Youth & Sports Club has always promoted the importance of education as all of us strongly believe that it is the foundation of a successful career. Teachers are the ones who nurture our brains with information, who guide us on the road to success and who along with our parents are our first positive role models. We are proud to honour you today for your outstanding contribution to the development of minds and as long as the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS exists, we would continue to do so.” Those were the words of long standing Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, MS as he spoke at the presentation Ceremony of the Club’s Annual Tribute to Outstanding Teachers/Students Award and Tribute to Retired Teachers Programme at the St. Francis Training Centre.
The ten cricket teams of the Club hosted the 15th Edition of the Tribute to Outstanding Teachers/Students Award and 6th Edition of Tribute to Retired Teachers. Eight Teachers and Students were honoured for outstanding performances in 2018. The Awardees were selected by the admi
nistration of their respective schools based on performances in the classroom, attendance rate, relationship with peers and role model status. The schools involved were Lower Corentyne Secondary, J.C. Chandisingh Secondary, Port Mourant Secondary, Corentyne Comprehensive, Rose Hall Town Nursery, Rose Hall Town Primary, Belvedere Primary and Port Mourant Primary.
Among those honoured were Reaz Beepat, Kalyan Etwaroo of Port Mourant Secondary School, Ayesha Vanier, Pauline Flatts of Rose Hall Town Primary, Shalenee Seepersaud and Aaliyah Ahamad of Belvedere Primary, Renatta Lynch Mayor and Kester Jeffrey of Rose Hall Town Nursery, Seecharrn Rampersaud and Aliyah Henry of Lower Corentyne Secondary, Travita Ram Kirpaul and Reyah Khemraj of J. C. Chandisingh Secondary, Samlall Rabindranauth and Analisa Yunus of Corentyne Comprehensive High School.
The four retired teachers with a combined 125 years of service to Guyana’s Educational Sector were Jean Herman, Kim Sampson, Jacqueline Jonas and Clement Edwards. Foster stated that too many Guyanese Educators retire without being acknowledged for their outstanding contributions toward the development of our country.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Secretary praised the Teachers and Students of the Year for their hard work in 2018. He urged the attentive students to remain focused and pledged the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Ms, assistance in any way possible. The Club and its ten cricket teams would shortly be announcing an expansion of their Say No/Say Yes Programme with sponsorship from an overseas based Company, currently working in Guyana. Each of the Outstanding Teachers and Retired Educators received a trophy, medal, framed certificate and special gifts. The eight Students of the Year carried home trophy, medal and collection of educational material.
