Level three-star Coach Sebert Blake was pleased with what he saw on Saturday last when the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) held its Pepsi Mike Parris U-16 School boys & Juniors Boxing Championships at the Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis Boxing Gym in Albouystown.
Coach Blake with Pan Am qualifier Keevin Alicock on their return from another successful overseas Championship.
“Our Under-16 Boxers are full of confidence because of the regular competitions although we still have to do some work on the technical and tactical side with them,” informed Blake.
That card was used as preparation for the Caribbean Schoolboys and Junior Championships scheduled for Guyana in August.
“So far we have them boxing in monthly competitions but we plan to step this up in the months of June and July,” disclosed Blake who in August joined GBA’s TD Terrence Pool as the only local Coaches with Level 3-star certification.
This is the highest level that any Coach can attain under the ruling Boxing Association and qualifies Blake to Coach and ‘second’ Boxers at all levels of competitions under the auspices of the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA).
Blake is the Coach of the Forgotten Youth Foundation in Albouystown and had earlier earned a Diploma in Sports when he travelled to Hungary under the auspices of the Guyana Olympic Association.
He pointed out that some of the young pugilists to watch out for are Shanquancy Wright, Daniel, Deron Williams of Vergenoegen Boxing Gym, Francis Sukhu of the Rose Hall Jammers of Berbice, Emanuel Pompy and Alex Butcher of Young Achievers.
Blake also thinks highly of siblings Alesha and Abiola Jackman, Jukwan Milo, Sean Graham all from the Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym.
“Also we will likely host some weekend camps and after the National school boys/junior championship in July, the final team will be picked,” Blake concluded. (Sean Devers)
